These Terms govern your use of Japan, Apparently at japanapparently.com (the "Site"). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site.

This document is a general template, not legal advice.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use this Site. If you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum age in your country to consent to data processing). By using the Site, you represent that you meet these requirements.

• Scrape, copy, or republish substantial portions of the Site without permission.

You may quote short passages (a sentence or two) for non-commercial purposes with a clear link back to the source page. For longer excerpts, translation rights, or commercial reuse, please email hello@japanapparently.com.

Some images are licensed from third parties or used under fair-use editorial review. If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, please send a takedown request to the email above with the URL and proof of ownership.

4. Editorial disclaimer

Content on the Site is provided "as is" for informational and entertainment purposes. Japan changes constantly — prices, opening hours, menu items, train routes, festival dates, and product availability are accurate to the best of our knowledge at the time of writing but may be out of date when you read them. Verify critical details (hours, reservations, prices) before acting on them.

We are not a tour operator, a travel agency, or a licensed financial / legal / medical advisor. Use your judgment. We are not liable for any loss, injury, or inconvenience arising from reliance on Site content, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

5. Third-party links

The Site links to third-party websites (booking platforms, news sources, official tourism boards, social media). We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, privacy practices, or availability. Following an external link is at your own risk.

6. Affiliate links & advertising

Some links on the Site are affiliate links — we receive a small commission if you purchase through them, at no extra cost to you. Full details are on the Affiliate Disclosure page.

The Site also displays ads served by Google AdSense and similar networks. We do not directly endorse advertisers. If you see an ad that violates Google's policies, you can report it via the AdChoices icon on the ad.

7. User submissions

If you email us a tip, correction, or suggestion, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use it in our editorial work, with credit where appropriate. Don't send anything you don't want published.

8. Newsletter

If you subscribe to the Friday digest, you can unsubscribe at any time via the link in every email. Subscribing is not a contract — there's no fee, no commitment.

9. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date below and announced in the Friday digest if you're a subscriber. Continued use of the Site after changes means you accept the new Terms.

10. Termination

We reserve the right to block users who violate these Terms or abuse the Site (e.g., scraping, spam comments, security probing). You can stop using the Site at any time.

11. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any disputes arising from the Site or these Terms shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court (東京地方裁判所) as the court of first instance.
